March 29, 2005: A Visit From The Wizard

The Programming Wizard, that is . . .

Jackie "Kira" Hamilton, the Legend of Linux, the Princess of Perl, the Jam Master of Java, is in town on a consult with us here at SJ Games on all things binary. Some of that time was spent planning our next move here at e23; if all goes well, we should have an announcement by the end of the week that should blow your proverbial socks off. Stay tuned.

March 13, 2005: Never Miss A New Release

OK, so maybe some days you've got better things to do than to click over to e23, hit the 'What's New?' button and check to see if anything's been uploaded that you can't live without. Can't imagine what those better things to do could possibly be, but I'm willing to concede the point . . . but you still don't have to mope about in abject ignorance, my friends! Nay, you can subscribe to the e23-announce mailing list, and not only will you get the e23 news that I write in this very space (on the days that I write it, which is slightly more often than not), but you will also get a complete rundown of every new file uploaded to e23, every night at midnight at the end of the day it went up. You will never miss a new release again!

And all you have to is to visit the e23-announce web page and sign up.

March 12, 2005: Another Milestone

You watch that little counter in the bottom left hand corner of nearly every e23 web page? That one that says

e23 currently has
251 files available
for download!

I watch it every day. Mostly, because I push the button that uploads every file that makes that little counter uptick

One.
More.
Time.

So when we hit a little milestone, like 250, I go "woo-hoo!" That's nice. Of course, it's only 250. Marketing Guy was in here earlier this week saying, "Steve says you're going for an 'ambitious 1,000' by the end of the year.' I say, "Yeah." He says, "What's so 'ambitious' about it?" The Brand X PDF sites, Marketing Guy reminds me, are well over 1,000 already, one's closer to 2K. What's so ambitious about a measly one grand?

I hate it when he's right. 250. Big deal. But hey – that shouldn't stop you from checking out the eight cool new files we put up from PIG and BTRC yesterday. Check 'em out, and have a great weekend!

March 11, 2005: Not Going For The Obvious Joke

Even though the folks at Politically Incorrect Games knew what they were in for when they named themselves that – and regularly refer to themselves with the initials PIG – I shall not go for the many, many obvious jokes and puns available to me in this space.

Instead, I shall merely point out that PIG has joined the e23 family with their very first offering, a set in their Disposable Heroes line of miniature figures. We'll have more goodies from PIG today, so keep your eyes peeled.

We also added nearly a dozen more new products from BTRC yesterday, and they are well worth a look, too. The hits just keep on coming!

March 10, 2005: Shiny New Products From Shiny New Company!

Seems like I've been doing a lot of announcing about new companies signing up with e23 without a lot of new product to show for it . . . until now, that is.

BTRC (used to call themselves Blacksburg Tactical Research Center before they realized how long that took to type) sent us some files, and we got a few of them uploaded yesterday, with more to come later today, and more after that, no doubt . . .

Anyways, the first few of theirs are up, and I'm expecting more from quite a few other new companies on an "any day now" sort of schedule, so things are likely to get quite exciting around here for us – and for you, too, I hope. Happy shopping!

March 9, 2005: New To The Club

Two more companies have signed up with e23:

Adamant Entertainment is the company behind such popular PDF lines as Thrilling Tales, Buccaneers & Bokor, Modern Dispatch, Terminal Identity, d20 Master Kit, and more. They'll be bringing all that, and some all-new product, to e23.

Expeditious Retreat Press hit it big in 2003 with A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe, one of the most highly-acclaimed first releases from any company ever. We'll have MMS:WE, of course, plus everything else they've been up to since then, too!

It's all coming soon, so watch this space for announcements.

March 6, 2005: Another Weekend, Another Question

Sometimes on the weekends, I point out a frequently asked question, and its answer:

Q: What about us guys with PDAs? PDFs look totally lame on our devices; how about offering all these cool files in HTML, too?
A. Right now there doesn't seem to be enough demand to justify it. The people who want HTML really want it, and we're keeping the question in mind . . . but some observers think that the hardware standards are likely to change soon anyway, leading to PDAs that can handle page-size PDFs more gracefully. We'll see.

Got a question that's not on the FAQ that you want answered? send it to e23 Weekend Questions, and put [Weekend Question] in the header. Thanks!

March 5, 2005: Company's Coming

We keep adding new companies to the e23 lineup. This time it's Dog House Rules, publishers of the acclaimed – and most excellent – Sidewinder: Recoiled roleplaying game. Sidewinder and all its supplements and support products will be available on e23 in the very near future – keep your eyes peeled!
