May 25, 2005: New . . . And Improved!Usually, we're talking about one thing that's both new and improved. But today, I'm throwing you a curve. We've got stuff that's new . . . and we've got stuff that's improved!New today is DM Campaign Tracker from Goodman Games; Unorthodox Druids from Politically Incorrect Games; and MonkeyGod Presents: Cataclysm on Cloudholme from Highmoon Media Productions. All three of these companies have been sending us excellent products ever since they joined e23, and their latest efforts are no exception. The "improved" product is not so much improved as restored to where it was when we first "fixed" it a few weeks back. GURPS Mysteries has been, hands down, our most successful PDF product. We've sold 320 copies . . . and counting. But when we first posted it, all the page numbers were on the right-hand side. Some of you wanted the page numbers to alternate so you could print the file out on both sides and bind it like a book. It was and easy fix (little did we know . . .), so we updated the PDF, and posted the new version. And that should have been it. But a little while later, somebody noticed that a sentence abruptly ended in the middle at the bottom of a page in the middle of the book. We finally figured out what happened: that innocent page number switch nudged a graphic on one page, which caused a horrible, terrible bane of all graphic designers called "reflow." So we fixed that, and posted a new version of the PDF . . . Until someone noticed that I forgot to update the version number on the front page of the latest PDF. So I went back and updated that, and posted another new version of the PDF, just trying to get finished with this blas What's that? In my haste I forgot to put the bookmarks in the new PDF? No, that's OK. Thanks for reminding me. I'll just scream into this bucket now . . .
So, I blame the page number switch last month for all this, just so you know. But the good news is, GURPS Mysteries is now in pretty good shape. And if you find any other errata or other mistakes (of a serious nature only, please), you can always report them to e23@sjgames.com. May 24, 2005: Ronin Arts Hits The Century Mark!We have on occasion bragged about reaching various upload milestones. 250 here, 300 there . . . it's all very nice. But this time, we get to brag about one of our vendors. Last night, we posted the 100th PDF from our good friend Phil Reed and his very prolific Ronin Arts design studio. The product that set the mark was Arctic Heroes, from the Prestige Classes line of d20 products by Lions Den Press, distributed by Ronin. And just like the other 99, it's good-looking, inexpensive, and chock-full of gaming value. We're proud to have Ronin Arts on board, and congratulate them on their centennial upload on e23. Dog House RulesIt's been a good week for new companies here at e23. The latest new kid on the block is Dog House Rules, who took the Gold ENnie last year for Best Electronic Product with Sidewinder: Recoiled, a terrific and terrific-looking Old West RPG based on the d20 Modern game system but chock-full of tweaks and changes that make it all their own. It's a spectacular piece of work, and an electronic value at nearly 300 pages. We've also got all the currently available support material for Sidewinder, and we'll have Dog House's latest releases as soon as they're ready!Stand-Ins By The Hundreds
Also new today are three sets of Stand-Ins, cardboard figures from ID Adventures that can be printed from PDF on paper or cardstock and used for just about any genre of roleplaying Fantasy, Modern & Superheroes, or Sci-Fi! ID AdventuresID Adventures makes their debut today on e23 with a spectrum of products for the d20 roleplayers. Mind Over Matter is a comprehensive new system for psionics; Lunar Knights is a full-length supplement devoted to lycanthropes of all kinds; while Modern Advances: The Garden Mage takes the notion of the "hedge wizard" to its modern suburban conclusion. You know, I've always wanted a spell called "Perfect Lawn" . . . And that's just a taste of what they've got. Give ID Adventures a look I think you'll like 'em.Also New Today Basic Action Games kicks off their One Sheet Dungeon line with The Buried Temple, the ultimate in brown-and-serve roleplaying. A complete dungeon adventure for four 2nd-level characters, and all for $1.25.
And P.I.G. sent us The Chronicles of Amherth, a sourcebook setting for their Iron Gauntlets fantasy roleplaying game. Check 'em out! May 10, 2005: Ashes, Ashes . . .I'm no expert, but I think there must be a very strange, creepy, dark place in Phil Reed's brain, and he occasionally lets it out for a spin at game design. The result is a little PDF we just posted called All Fall Down, a storytelling game of children in a plague-stricken village. Each turn, you decide how you spend the day inside, protecting yourself from contagion, but giving in to equally deadly melancholy and isolation? Or outside, playing with the other kiddies and laughing at Death Himself, all the while risk wait, was that a cough I heard? Find out for yourself with a copy of All Fall Down, new from e23! Scott Haring, e23 Manager e23@sjgames.com May 9, 2005: New From e23!Also check out these files recently posted on e23:Lost Tomb of the Sphinx Queen is the latest Dungeon Crawl Classic from Goodman Games, chock full of secret doors, deadly traps, cunning puzzles, perplexing riddles, and big nasty things to fight. Just your kind of dungeon!
And Basic Action Games has posted Fatal Flaws: Disadvantages for the d20 System, a new look at character creation options in that oft-tweaked open source system. May 8, 2005: New From Steve Jackson Games!Originally published in 1991, Mordag's Little Finger is a fantasy adventure by David Pulver that first appeared in GURPS Fantasy Adventures (where else, Captain Obvious?). It's been out of print and unavailable for years, but now it is available again through e23.
Mordag's Little Finger doesn't sound like much, but Mordag was a terrible giant and a powerful mage, now a hundred years dead, and the bone of his little finger is now a staff of mighty power still not fully understood. The master thief Saragrave has taken it from The Sorceress in Silver, murdering her apprentice in the process. But Saragrave is no mage, and cannot comprehend the staff's power, much less use it can you get to the bottom of this terrible crime and put things right? Download Mordag's Little Finger and find out! May 7, 2005: Cross Promotion On A BudgetTook a small innovative company like The CaBil, but finally one of our partners figured out how what we do over here on e23 can help out what they're trying to do over on Warehouse 23.The CaBil has a miniatures game called Budget Battlefield, and a strange game world for it called The Way of War, and some cool miniatures. So they decided to do up Budget Battlefield stats for their Way of War miniatures, put 'em on Battle Cards, convert 'em to PDFs, and then give them away on e23! It's a free game aid as a thank you to their loyal customers, and it just might get a few more of you taking a look at what they've got.
Anyway, the Battle Cards come in two sets: the Aztecs and the Circus of Terror (I told you it was a strange game world . . .). You should check it out, especially what with it being free and all. 2005 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2006 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2007 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2008 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2009 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov |
