November 30, 2005: Ivanhoe Unbound

I come to sing the praises of Unsung, a new roleplaying game from a company brand new to e23, Ivanhoe Unbound. Kirt Dankmyer is the brains behind both company and game, and he has designed a challenging modern-day roleplaying game that makes you think about how far is too far in a world where sometimes lines have to be crossed. Download the introduction (it's a free preview) and check it out, then try the "Deluxe Download" for only $7.00.

November 29, 2005: Get This New Freebie . . . PDQ!

Temple of the Lost Gods is one of e23's original products, a classic version that even today is just a hair out of the all-time Top Ten sales list. Author Chad Underkoffler has done a lot more on the virtual real estate of Steve Jackson Games, as a regular contributor to Pyramid Magazine ("Campaign in a Box") and as the owner and author of Atomic Sock Monkey Press, publishers of Dead Inside and Truth & Justice, two RPGs using the PDQ (Prose Descriptive Qualties) system.

Now Underkoffler has written a conversion guide that lets PDQ players explore The Temple of the Gods for themselves! The Temple of the Lost Gods PDQ Conversion converts all the relevant characters, creatures, magic spells, and magic items to the PDQ system.

Players will still need the original Temple of the Lost Gods, of course, but the PDQ conversion is FREE!

Give it a download, see what you think. Thank Chad when you get a chance.

November 22, 2005: E23 Welcomes Expeditious Retreat Press

Another brand new company (well, brand new to us . . .) makes its debut on e23 today. We are thrilled to have Expeditious Retreat Press on board with their full line of products!

Joseph Browning and Suzi Yee jumped into the gaming forefront in a big way with 2002's A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe, one of the most amazing first releases by any game publisher ever. (And yes, we have the PDF for sale, and for only $10!) Since then, they've stayed hot with two more Magical Society releases, the ultimate in beastie compilations with their Monster Geographica line, adventure seed collections, and an adventure for GM and one player . . . if you dare!

And that's just the start . . . the Thanksgiving holiday will get in the way, but we've got several more new companies coming your way in the very near future, plus tons of new stuff from our other vendors, and a few surprises of our own! I'll try to get some of it down here so you can read it over the holidays, if I can find the time.

November 19, 2005: Pretty New Things

In addition to the lovely GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes that debuted on Friday, several other nifty new products also clawed their way to prominence and demand your attention:

Goodman Games' Underdark Adventure Guide is the ultimate goodie bag for designing underworld fantasy settings. Races, classes, feats, locations, entire subsections like cities and camps . . . it's 146 pages of comprehensive subterranean evil, waiting for you to download and enjoy.

And we also welcome a brand new company to e23, TPK Productions. Their very first effort is Escape from Alcatraz!, a colorful and compelling mix of historical resource on the real federal prison they called "The Rock" and a great setting for Mutants & Masterminds Superlink, 2nd Edition, complete with 25 supervillains all guaranteed to make your superheroes do hard time trying to rein them in. Escape from Alcatraz! is one of the strongest debut products I've seen from a new company in a long time, and well worth checking out.

November 18, 2005: New Today: Psionics Institutes!

Posting today at 12 noon sharp (and this time I mean it . . .) will be GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes, our first all-original product for GURPS Traveller. Set in the traditional Third Imperium, Psionics Institutes is very rules-light, but what rules are there are written for Third Edition.

We're very proud to add Traveller to the list of game lines that e23 is supporting with new product. Keep watching for more to come!

November 16, 2005: In Nomine Core Rules On Sale Today!

Mid-Afternoon Update

The In Nomine Core Rulebook is now for sale, as of 3:25 p.m. CST. We now return you to your regular news . . .

The PDF reprint of the In Nomine Core Rules goes on sale later today! I'm shooting for 12 noon like we did with the megahit In Nomine Superiors: Lilith (can you believe I got another Lilith plug into a news announcement? I'm shameless, I tell you . . .), but the Core Rules reprint has been a bear of a project the past two weeks, and if it does go up at noon, it will be by the skin of the proverbial teeth. Check in around then, and if it's not up, try again every hour or two after that. With all the errata fixed and all the art in color, it's the best of the 1997 first printing and the 2000 second printing combined, and then improved on from there, so you don't want to miss out!

November 12, 2005: Coming Soon

Hope you enjoyed In Nomine Superiors: Lilith last week; we here at e23 were certainly very pleased that you all seemed to like it, if sales figures and product ratings are any indication . . .

So this upcoming week, we've got two more new products coming your way!

In Nomine Core Rules

This book contains the core rules for the In Nomine roleplaying system. The setting is introduced by two short stories, A Bright Dream and A Dark Dream by author Derek Pearcy. Character creation concepts are discussed, along with the game mechanics, resource mechanics, essense, resonance, dissonance, and falling. In Nomine also describes each of the choirs of angels and bands of demons, introduces 13 Archangels and Demon Princes, and discusses soldiers of God (and Hell), ethereal spirits, celestial spirits, and the undead.

This is a reprint of the hardback second printing of In Nomine, published in 2000.

GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes

You have the power . . .
But you don’t know how to use it.

Just asking for the location of a psionics institute can land you in prison, so how do you find – much less attend – one without getting arrested?

GURPS Traveller: Psionics Institutes describes everything you need to roleplay finding and attending an institute, developing psionic talent, and connecting with the Psionics Underground.

  • Locate Psionics Institutes in the Imperium, the Zhodani Consolate, and Red Zones
  • Face the gauntlet and earn the right to attend an institute
  • Train at an elite psionics institute
  • Make contacts in the Underground and in the powerful psionic kites
  • Use your newly developed psionic talents in public and private service
You have the power . . . Now use it!

November 10, 2005: More Kudos For Lilith

How hot is In Nomine Superiors: Lilith right now? Not content to dominate the Top Ten sales charts (and threatening to crack the all-time chart) in less than a week of sales, Lilith has zoomed to the top of our Ratings Chart, posting an impressive 4.95 score! (You can find our Top Ten customer ratings at the bottom of the What's Hot! page.)

Doing the math, 20 posted ratings (as of Wednesday afternoon) averaging to a 4.95 means that 19 people gave Lilith a 5 . . . and one person gave her a 4. This sounds like a job for Asmodeus . . . hell, bring Dominic in on it, too -- they probably both owe Beth a favor.

November 8, 2005: More LPJ Goodness

The ever-bountiful digital studios of Louis Porter Jr Design have sent us another batch of d20-ready PDFs covering everything from variant magic rules to legendary tombs – complete with legendary treasure – all the way to a new character class that can bend the very fabric of reality . . . if that's your thing.

All you have to do is hit the What's New? button on the left side of just about any page, and check out the latest releases!

November 7, 2005: And Meanwhile . . .

Some other very nifty products have hit the e23 shelves while we were going all a ga-ga over Lilith. Let me point out to you one in specific today:

Blood and Relics (2nd Edition) from RPGObjects was posted early last week. It's really hard to find a game world concept in d20 that hasn't already been done 25 times, and Blood and Relics certainly sounds familiar: a modern-day campaign with an occult background, where secret societies on both sides (and a few in between) fight it out for Items of Power with the fate of a mostly unknowing humankind in the balance.

Except Blood and Relics is a little subtler, and a little cooler, and a little weirder, and – if this word can apply to the premise – a little more authentic. I guess I'm just saying I like this one a lot, and you should check it out.

November 6, 2005: Breaking 500

Our second product has crossed the 500-sales mark! Congratulations to GURPS Character Assistant, the handy software helper for creating characters and character templates for GURPS.

November 5, 2005: Lilith's A Hit! (And Happy Birthday, Beth!)

We debuted In Nomine Superiors: Lilith yesterday at 12 noon, and author Beth McCoy was hoping – as a birthday present, seeing as her birthday is today, November 5 – for a first-day sales run that would propel Lilith on to our TopTen list.

Well, Happy Birthday, Beth. Looks like you got your wish. Of course, this comes as no surprise to those of us who know Beth, longtime Line Editor for In Nomine and quite possibly a high-powered Lilim of carefully guarded allegiance in the Role of a New Hampshire wife, mother, and writer . . . just hope you didn't have to trade too many, uh, favors to get what you wanted. (Oh, who am I kidding? Beth probably came out ahead on the deal . . .)

November 3, 2005: It's Coming . . .

And it's only a few hours away! "It," of course, is the debut of In Nomine Superiors: Lilith, the new supplement for In Nomine. We'll be posting it around 12 noon (Central Standard Time) on Friday, so synchronize your watches and be ready to hit those download buttons!
