Sword's Edge Publishing has collected some disaster relief-related writing from the roleplaying community, and put out a collection called Relief Effort, with 100% of the proceeds going to the International Red Cross.
This particular drive is in specific response to the recent earthquake in southeast Asia, but the International Red Cross (www.icrc.org) is pretty much saving somebody's bacon somewhere 24/7, so if this particular set of miserable wretches aren't deserving of your $2.25 for a PDF of cool gaming stuff, then some other bunch will be hurricaned or tsunamied or earthquaked or mudslided to within an inch of oblivion soon enough, and if you buy Relief Effort now, you'll be covered. How about it? One SJ Games product also got an Origins Awards nomination, and as coincidence would have it, it's also available here on e23: GURPS Infinite Worlds received a nomination for Role-Playing Game Supplement of the Year (must be that "Infinite" in the title . . .). We are of course honored to be nominated, and hope you will take the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design's recommendation to heart and give these two products a closer look if, for some reason, you have passed these two fine products by in the past. There's more goodies, of course, including some straight-up d20 goodness from Øone on the subjects of villainesses and devil worship, and a new volume in Silven Publishing's Monsters of Twilight line covering Curse Monsters – no, not the ones with a limited vocabulary, the ones that come and give you a hard time when you are cursed.
Cool stuff, which you should check out between basketball games this weekend. (This is where I say "Go Aggies!" Texas A&M has already bounced Syracuse, and now has their sights set on LSU for a Sweet 16 berth and a shot at . . . Duke. Oh, well.) Tons of heroic roleplaying action, without tons of rulebooks!
Also new today is the latest from The Kyngdoms, Adventure Minis 1: Ambush!, a ready-to-go encounter for your RPG, plus four more state-of-the-art battlemap products from Øone Games. It's Fantasy Music Set 1, four mp3 files of original music ready to be downloaded and either burned to CD, transferred to a portable device, or kept on your computer.
This is part of e23's ultimate goal, to branch out beyond PDFs and find more digital products that gamers want. This could be the start of something big March 12, 2006: More Gonzo GoodnessGot a few more new products just before the weekend started, and they're all kinda out there, one way or another. Yeah, as if a new edition of the Ninja Burger RPG isn't out there enough . . .Let's start with the latest thing from James "Grim" Desborough, '45 - Psychobilly Retropocalypse. I told this guy to stay on his meds, because this is what happens when he doesn't . . . it's a post-apocalyptic pastiche of cliches from the '40s, '50s, and '60s, with Nazis, hot rods, Rock 'n' Roll, giant mutant insects, zombies, trench-coated detectives and dames with a past, nuclear wastelands, flying saucers, cycle gangs, mad scientists, guitars, mutants . . . oh, just buy it, won't you? Let's not forget Geek Wars, the first deck in a series in this new card game from Goodman Games. The idea in Geek Wars is to take over Jim Con, and each deck will feature a specialized "army" of con-goers for that task. Deck 1 is RPG Gamers, and features cards like "Always Plays the Cleric," "Didn't You Know There's a 5th Edition?," and "The Lake Geneva Sucker Punch."
And the folks at Misfit Studios have gone even further out into the realm of the eerie with Metahuman Mystics & Supernatural Supers 2, following hot on the heels of Vol. 1. This'll show those mutants and techs what real power is! March 11, 2006: Welcome To Aethereal FORGEIf you're primarily a Steve Jackson Games fan, you might know the righteous gaming goodness that is Ninja Burger . . . but you might not know that it got its start as a silly idea on the web, and then a roleplaying game. And now Aethereal FORGE joins the e23 family with the hot off the motherboard Second Edition of the Ninja Burger RPG, completely revamped with an all-new game engine and all-new ninja content.Chad Underkoffler joins the team with his PDQ System, which he uses in his Dead Inside RPG, as well as Monkey, Ninja, Pirate, Robot and Truth & Justice.
It's a new company making its e23 debut with a great new edition of one of our favorite games – this is my kind of day around here! March 10, 2006: Coming Later Today: GURPS Infinite WorldsFriday Afternoon UpdateIt's posted and available for sale, so go get it already.*** Posting later today to e23: GURPS Infinite Worlds, the third Fourth Edition supplement for GURPS to be released in PDF form! GURPS Infinite Worlds is the core setting of GURPS Fourth Edition Every other GURPS setting is on one of the Infinite Worlds timelines . . . whether they know it or not! GMs can use this to create a whole meta-campaign, or just as an excuse to move characters between worlds when the plot requires it. Compiled by Kenneth Hite, the master of alternate histories, GURPS Infinite Worlds is the complete genre book on both alternative-world gaming and time travel. It offers detailed advice on the unique challenges of running this kind of campaign, and on designing and playing characters who regularly cross between settings. It also provides a wide variety of suitable threats and hazards -- from evil cross-time Nazis and cosmic conspiracies to "ordinary" monsters and disasters. And it gives guidelines for building alternate worlds from the perspectives of the setting, the story, and the rules.
Whether you're playing accidental travelers or the hardened troops of the Infinity Patrol, this book is your gateway to adventure. Infinite adventure. March 9, 2006: More New GoodiesJust keep hitting that What's New? button. You never know what you'll find . . .Like seven more products from 01 Games, including the other two levels of that giant Skirmish Tiles, Castle System, and two new sets of Battlemaps, two sets of Battlemaps Lairs, and a set of those amazing Customizable Battlemaps. Like a new d20 adventure from Silven Publishing with embedded sound files, so when you get to the box where it says, "Read this text to the players," instead you click on the icon on the screen and the PDF on your computer . . . Reads The Text To The Players! Is that cool or what? There's also sound effects, and a hyperlink to a download on the Misfit site for background music files (too big to attach to the PDF directly). Like a new book for Etherscope from Goodman Games, or a cool book of supervillain teams for M&M Superlink from TPK Productions.
Like seven new products from Misfit Studios, including a cool RPG setting called Odyssey Prime where you play parts of two different teams -- the group searching for the alternate dimension to evacuate Earth to before the end of the world, and the group trying to keep the lid on the secret back home. Plus two new rules mods for Mutants & Masterminds. And new stuff from Politically Incorrect Games and Ronin Arts. It never stops, I tell ya . . . March 8, 2006: Sword's Edge FreebieThe folks at Sword's Edge Publishing are offering a FREE primer for their new Modern Medieval line. Modern Principles is everything you need to know to get you started incorporating modern rules into fantasy games. It's the perfect companion to Modern Medieval: Gunpowder Plots, now on sale here at e23. But best of all, it's free! Such generosity should be rewarded with many, many downloads. So get to it!– Scott Haring, e23 Manager e23@sjgames.com March 7, 2006: Relief EffortIt's a product and a good cause.
March 4, 2006: Alive And Kicking At Postmortem StudiosI'm very excited about the latest company to join us here at e23. Postmortem Studios is the unruly child of James "Grim" Desborough, a fellow who does very nice work when he's in a good mood, and very, uh, not nice work when he's in other moods. He can also be really, really funny. He co-wrote The Munchkin's Guide to Power Gaming for us a few years back, and you know all the trouble that started.
Anyway, Grim has taken his pen to such subjects as pretentious Goth live-action roleplayers (Bloodsucker: The Angst) and how the traditional woodland creatures of myth have adapted to the modern age (Urban Faerie). But he also has some wonderful, more serious products, including the 100 Adventure Seeds series, the Autopsy occasional magazines, and my favorite, the very political, very thought-provoking @ctiv8 roleplaying game. At less than $5 and 50 pages, I recommend it if only to read and think about – playing would be a bonus. Check it out. March 3, 2006: New Products Everywhere!Got new stuff all over the place. The surest way to see it all is to hit the What's New? tag that's on nearly every page. But here's some highlights:Two supplements for the uber-twisted Godlike RPG are finally available in PDF form, thanks to the guys from Arc Dream. Check out Combat Orders No. 1: Donar’s Hammer and Talent Operations Command Intelligence Bulletin No. 2: Talent Operations Groups. We've got more World War II with a twist from Battlefield Press: Ted Nomura's Luftwaffe 1946 Role Playing Game is based on the famous alternate history comic that puts you on the flight deck of revolutionary jet fighters and on covert missions for the OSI.
Plus eight more great products from 01 Games, including the latest set of Blueprints, four more sets of Explore files (you must have Quicktime for these!), Volume IV of Dungeon Battlemaps, and the first two sets of Skirmish Tiles that will let you eventually build a four-level, 30+ square-foot-per-level castle, custom-designed one tile at a time. This stuff just boggles my mind. Check it all out. March 2, 2006: Tabletop Adventures: New Products And A Sale! With Tabletop's new Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Open, you can move your adventures into the wide open spaces with their usual quality descriptions. Here you will find word pictures of the grasses and wildlife you need to augment your imagination and enhance your players’ experience of the wide open prairie or high steppes. Never again will you have to say, “Nah, nothing special, just more open terrain.” With Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Open you can show your adventurers just how dangerous and unique a bit of grassland can be. Available now on e23 so you can Buy it Today, Play it Tonight! And coming soon: Tabletop Adventures presents Bits of Darkness: Dungeons II with more descriptions to add to your Bits from their last dungeon product and specialized rooms and encounters that you can just drop into the dungeons that you are creating. In this product for the first time, they are introducing adventure “Bricks” – the building blocks of an adventure. In Dungeons II, they have two types of Bricks. The first is “Encounter Bricks,” which are fully detailed Dungeon encounters for a GM to place into his or her dungeon. The second type is “Room Kits,” detailed descriptions of complete dungeon rooms that a GM can just drop into place. Examples include “The Tomb,” “Cell Block,” “Volcanic Workshop,” etc. Add to that some stairs, doors, and a few more Dungeon Bits for good measure, and this will be a very exciting product for game masters.
Also, catch the GM’S DAY SALE starting March 1st – All Tabletop Adventures products are discounted, so here's your chance to get them cheap! Augment your imagination with more products from Tabletop Adventures! March 1, 2006: Welcome To Silven PublishingOur newest publishing partner comes to us all the way from Sollentuna, Sweden. Silven Publishing is another example of the Open Gaming License opening up imagination and creativity from all parts of the world. The eight d20 products they have sent us are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, but there's plenty here to get you started. For the serious roleplayers there's the Races of Twilight line, there's books on psionic NPCs and everything you ever wanted to know about curses, and for the silly among you there's The Pun is Mightier than the Sword, which actually has to be read to be fully appreciated. And then burned.
And then there's my current favorite game title of all time: 50 New Ways to Blow Things Up. With a name like that, you just have to check it out, don't you? 2005 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2006 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2007 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2008 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2009 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov |
