Have a wonderful holiday, and I'll see you in 9 days! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 22, 2006: Dungeon CrawlingAh, Goodman Games, you really know how to hurt someone. The Dungeon Crawl Classics line is a collection of fun, violent, kick-down-doors-and-bash-monsters gaming, but now they had to go and do one better. Dungeon Crawl Classics #12.5: The Iron Crypt of the Heretics - 1E Conversion Edition is one of their classic Classics, now converted to the original classic. It was hard enough with all of the third edition enhancement bonuses and feats and prestige classes. Now I get to go make some players cry. (Hey, I didn't say Goodman Games was hurting me, did I?) – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 21, 2006: Port A Pint Of Porter's ProductsLouis Porter, Jr. Design has dropped another package of manna to consume. Let's see, we've got . . .
– Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 20, 2006: A Map For NyambeAtlas Games has just released a free, high-resolution map of the continent from Nyambe: African Adventures. Check it out (as well as the product preview) and start your slide down the slippery slope of owning everything Atlas Games has ever made. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 19, 2006: Transhuman AscensionTranshuman Space: Changing Times rose to third place on our Top 20 Downloads, All Time list over the weekend. I, for one, welcome our new transhuman overlords (and I would like to remind them that I have always been kind to their primitive infomorph cousins). – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 17, 2006: Free: Forgotten FuturesTalking about Faery's Tale yesterday reminded me of another beautifully illustrated game: Forgotten Futures: The Scientific Romance Role Playing Game by Marcus Rowland. The whole game is free (we carry it because we adore Marcus Rowland and you should buy his non-free products, too), so there's no excuse for you to not check it out, and get your zeppelin-hopping antics on. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 16, 2006: You Got What It Takes To Be A Faery?Faery's Tale is an elegant little system (and a lot of background flavor) for playing tiny fey creatures in maudlin tales of heroism and triumph. Well, if you play with your kid sister. In practice, I've found that in my play group, defeat and ignominy are more likely for the faery who isn't cunning and quick, and that the path to becoming a dark faery is slippery and short. I love this game. The mechanics are simple, character creation is easy (though you can spruce it up a bit if you want), and your life's blood, power, and resources are all contained in the too-quickly-spent Essence. There's a free intro pack, which will give you a feel for the writing and the game system (though it doesn't cover dark faeries and wickedness very much). Check it out. Buy it. Sell off your first-born daughter to a hag in return for a powerful potion - I'm sure you can avoid the price later. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 15, 2006: GURPS Mysteries Is Now Available In Print!Yes, you read that right! The boxes arrived just yesterday afternoon! GURPS Mysteries is now available in softcover for $19.95. The only mystery is why you aren't already ordering yours (unless you were smart and pre-ordered, in which case, good news: your order may have shipped yesterday!). . . . Ahem. If you'll excuse me, I need to mosey over to the Warehouse for a moment. No reason. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 10, 2006: BTRC: Good StuffBTRC just updated some errata for Stuff!, an all-in-one collection of rules (both simple and gearhead heaven) for building guns, vehicles, creatures, and more. Some of you will already be familiar with EABA (which Stuff! is written for), but for those of you who aren't, check out the 15-page preview and see if you might like a bite. It's good stuff. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 9, 2006: Seeds You NeedFrom Seeds: Sci-Fi IV (the first seed in the book, actually): One of the player characters is attacked in the middle of the night, by unidentifiable assassins. Fortunately for the character, the attackers obviously underestimated her abilities, and the assassins are easily defeated. If the character chooses to investigate the incident, she will find a mysterious vehicle parked nearby. It is empty except for a stasis pod containing a hibernating clone of the character. That Seed and the second-to-last Seed in this book just made it into last night's campaign. I can't recommend this book at all for players, but I can't recommend it (or its cousins) enough for GMs. Check out the entire line and pick up one or more that fit your campaign. It's nothing but 5-6 pages of little inspirations, for $1.35 per collection. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 8, 2006: More Shiny!Themes? We don't need no stinkin' themes. Dungeon Crawl Classics #36: Talons of the Horned King by Goodman Games is the latest in their much-lauded line of Player Character Beatdowns. vs. Monsters Fragments by Ronin Arts is the newest entry in the vs. Monsters line, a game of monster-hunting in an America that never was, except in the twisted dreams of Lewis Carroll and Tim Burton. Lastly, NPC Files by Expeditious Retreat Press is a series of PDFs, each detailing a single NPC from level 1 to 20. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 7, 2006: New And Shiny! (And Some Free In There, Too!)First up, we have the newest PDF by Daemornia Studios, Invasion of the Gaeo System. They've also very kindly provided us with a 50-page sampler text for you to download, in case you weren't sure that post-apocalyptic, daemon-enslaved, post-space-era humanity was "for you." And next up, we also have the full line of Future Armada by Ki Ryn studios. Gorgeous spacecraft maps, gorgeous renders, and some d20 stats as a side dish. You seriously need to check them out (and Ki Ryn Studios very kindly included solid previews for each). - Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 6, 2006: Please Welcome Ki Ryn StudiosWe've got their first product up (Future Armada: Drake), and we'll have more up shortly! Future Armada is a line of detailed and gorgeous ship layouts, along with illustrations of the ship, d20 stats for the ship and an example crew, and did I mention the illustrations? Really, this is something you have to see for yourself. Download the sample and take a look. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 5, 2006: Transhuman Ninjas!First, Happy Day of the Ninja! This is the last day of the Day of the Ninja Ninja Burger Sale (for Ninjas)! Today is also a very Transhuman day, because Transhuman Space: Changing Times is now available for purchase! So there you go. Two great products that you should buy today. Stealthily. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 4, 2006: Grah! Hurg! SMASH! GRAH!Please welcome Mystic Ages Online to e23! Barbarians Versus is a fun, smash-happy pulp game of northern barbarians beating the goo out of alien slave-traders. What can I say? I like beating the goo out of alien slave-traders. The mechanics are fast, straight-forward, and flexible enough to adapt to a variety of games, such as barbarians beating the goo out of dinosaurs, barbarians beating the goo out of time-travelling tourists, barbarians beating the goo out of the Aquilonian empire . . . almost any campaign worth running, really. Check out the 8-page preview and give it a try. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 3, 2006: Louis J. Porter, Jr., A Passel Of PiecesLPJ Design has released ten new products on e23, so check them out!
– Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 2, 2006: Old School Beat DownMy poor players. They are not prepared for my nostalgic, meat-grinder ways. Earlier this month, I mentioned that we now had OSRIC offerings. Those offerings are expanding - 01 Games, Expeditious Retreat Press, and Ronin Arts are all selling OSRIC modules and supplements, now. Is it shameful for a grown man to admit he likes this? – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager December 1, 2006: Demons, Mutants, And Other Apocalyptic ImageryIt's no secret that I love me some d20, GURPS, Ars Magica, Hero System, OSRIC, and other long-established rules mechanics. But I have to admit that, house-ruling fiend that I am, new rules systems tug my poor little heart strings like nothing else. Daemornia (by Daemornia Studios) manages a little of both, with recognizable elements (my first thought on reading it was Gamma World + In Nomine for the win) and new twists. And since it's reasonably adaptable to almost any post-apocalyptic campaign setting, my house-ruling inner id gets to play, too. I haven't gotten to play it yet, though. It's over 200 pages, and I'm still reading through it. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager 2005 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2006 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2007 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2008 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2009 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov |
