In the spirit of the day, then, here are some recent PDFs (by people other than us) you might like: The breakfast of champions is the opposition. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 23, 2007: GURPS TechnomancerAre the secret masters hinting at something terrible on the horizon? Will there be dragons in Vietnam soon? This Third Edition GURPS reprint is an alternate Earth, a guide to how GURPS Magic might impact the real world, and the only place you can find killer penguins and a serious look at corporations built on necrotechnology. Killer communist penguins. GURPS Technomancer is available now for $7.95 - if you don't buy this, the penguins will win! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 22, 2007: Released February 21, 2007Released February 21, 2007Flatlands 3D: Standup Doors & Furniture, Vol 1 The door - unsung NPC for every adventure you have ever played or run! In adventures, doorways appear by the dozens. They are found in dungeons, in castles, in shops, taverns and inns. They are the gateways to temples, towns, libraries and halls. They range from the mightiest drawbridge to the lowliest . . . [read more] February 17, 2007: Overlooked BooksHere's a few more gems you may have missed at the new pricing. My last one was historical books, so this time I'll touch on some overlooked myths! GURPS Atlantis is a definitive resource to the lost island nation, written by Phil Masters, and packed with neat stuff (including three mini-settings). It's $8, and you have no idea what you're missing. GURPS Camelot, by Robert and Peggy Schroek, provides three Arthurian lenses (mythic, modern, and "realistic") for your campaign. The majority of this 128-page book is system independant - if you don't have it in your gaming reference collection, at only eight bucks, you should. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 16, 2007: One Step Closer To Gattaca: GURPS Bio-Tech!I, for one, welcome our new GURPS Bio-Tech-constructed overlords, and would like to point out that I've always believed in wearing designer genes. Yep. The PDF is now available. Get it while it's hot! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 13, 2007: Released February 12, 2007Released February 12, 2007Future: 13 Starship Gadgets and Devices The latest release in Ronin Arts' Future: 13 Thirteens subscription service, Future: 13 Starship Gadgets and Devices brings the gadget system to starships. Inside this 6-page PDF you will find: Three new engine gadgets. Six new weapon gadgets. and Four new starship special systems. Runic Fantasy: Six More Bizarre Creatures Strange and unusual monstrosities are a part of almost any fantasy setting and it is a rare moment when a gamemaster cannot find a use for a new, unusual monster. Runic Fantasy: Six More Bizarre Creatures provides gamemasters with six new foul beasts that are as warped and twisted as those found in the . . . Now you can relive those great times at your gaming table with the original uncut, unedited, and unspell-checked homage from 1997. Scanned into PDF from the original print, it's like having . . . [read more] February 12, 2007: I Wish I Were A Noble Knight. . . but I'll settle for playing one in The Zorcerer of Zo. The rules are actually free - this PDF is primarily a working example of how to use the rules, and a massive resource on running an evocative fairy tale story. (And when I say massive, the 104-page listing is deceptive, because each PDF "page" is two pages in print.) I just got my copy. Glee! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 9, 2007: Overlooked BooksWe priced all of the Third Edition books pretty low. One of the results of that is that some of the real gems of the Third Edition days are now easily purchased. Looking at the sales data, the obvious gems are being picked up . . . but a few were overlooked. GURPS Aztecs is easily my second-favorite GURPS historical, even though bigger ones like GURPS China are more impressive. But when I'm building a fantasy setting for my players, this book (as a wellspring of ideas and a resource for non-European cultures) is never far from hand. (My favorite historical is GURPS Greece - I'm an unabashed hellenophile - but that's still in print and available at Warehouse 23, and I can't say it's been overlooked.) Another favorite book is GURPS Space: Unnight, by Stefan Jones (yep, now also the author of MacGuffin Alphabet). Unnight is an adventure and a space setting, but my main memories of it are how it used (and twisted) the rules for star system construction - for me, this book was one giant, worked example. It was actually published before I started playing GURPS (horrors!), but it's always held a fond spot in my heart. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 8, 2007: Alphabet? You Bet!Twenty-six treasures and troubles for the GM in need of inspiration and the player in need of something to do, GURPS MacGuffin Alphabet delivers up a strangely alphabetized trove of tribulations. And just in time for the new pricing, too! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 6, 2007: A Ship is a Ship?I've just fallen in love with VBAM Games, and specifically with VBAM: Fire As She Bears! Edition, an Age of Sail version of Victory By Any Means. Same advanced rules structure and Great Powers conflict, but upon the high seas instead of deep space. Based on the second edition of Fire As She Bears! (the non-VBAM version), it adds the fluid resources and long-term war campaign management of VBAM. It's nice. Looks like I'll be wargaming again soon. – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 5, 2007: GURPS Modern FirepowerNeed lots of guns? GURPS Modern Firepower is a Third Edition GURPS supplement with lots and lots of guns. Also, armor to help reduce the amount of killing the guns result in, but that's less fun. It's only $2.95, so you have no excuse to not buy a copy today (you might also want a copy of GURPS Ice Age - also $2.95 - for the most one-sided battle in history) – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 4, 2007: 101 Legendary Treasures Of Medieval EuropeI finished reading 101 Legendary Treasures of Medieval Europe last night. I've been meaning to finish reading this since we got it in, and now I have. I don't agree with every single item as presented (is it even possible I would have?), but overall, this is an awesome resource for artifacts in d20 games. Scrub off the serial numbers, and you have more fantasy-setting artifacts (as well-defined and campaign-shattering as you might wish) than you'll ever need. For six bucks. Do I need to say more? – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 3, 2007: Price Quake! It finally happened - two years on the PDF market has given us a lot of valuable data about pricing PDFs, and we've applied that knowledge to our prices. Most prices went down, at least a little bit, and some went way down. In particular, you may wish to take a second look at our Out Of Print GURPS books. Prices are (in most cases) half or a third the old price (and a number are down to $2.95). These are a permanent price change, not a sale! But that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy everything today . . . – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 2, 2007: Please Welcome Two New Faces!Cracked Mirror and Victory By Any Means Games have joined e23! Cracked Mirror produces supplements for Mutants & Masterminds (a d20 variant) - and while we're still getting their products up, you can acquire their spacecraft construction system now! Victory By Any Means Games, Inc. (a mouthful, I know) is also putting out some spacecraft products . . . serious spacecraft rules. Seriously. Check out the table of contents and introduction to the core rules. Then buy it and tear space a new black hole. Then check out their other offerings! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager February 1, 2007: Last Day Of The $1 SaleInvasion of the Gaeo System, Novacastria, and Daemornia: Revised Edition are all just $1 each, as part of a shameless promotion that we're happily participating in . . . but it ends sometime this evening. It's three bucks for a more fiendish apocalypse than you can handle! Ending the world has never been so cost-effective! – Thomas Weigel, e23 Manager 2005 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2006 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2007 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2008 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov • Dec 2009 News: • Jan • Feb • Mar • Apr • May • Jun • Jul • Aug • Sep • Oct • Nov |
